AmeriCorps Application Courses

This 5-course series on “The AmeriCorps Application” is intended to help organizations interested in applying for an AmeriCorps grant understand the many details of the application and to determine if AmeriCorps is a fit.

Due to the level of detail required to complete an AmeriCorps application, we suggest these courses be taken in the following order, all of which are a part of “The AmeriCorps Application” 5-part series:

  1. Is Our Organization a Fit?;
  2. Understanding the Overall Application and Narrative;
  3. Developing Logic Models;
  4. Selecting and Developing Performance Measurements; and
  5. Understanding the AmeriCorps Budget.

Is Our Organization a Fit?

Course Description: This course is designed to help you determine if AmeriCorps is a program you can manage and implement; if AmeriCorps is a fit for your organization and what you are trying to do; and if there are other national service programs instead that might be a resource. Understanding the Overall Application and Narrative

Course Description: This course is intended to accomplish two goals. First, we aim to provide a high level overview of the AmeriCorps grant competition and what is required as a part of the AmeriCorps application. Second, we break down the narrative which is an important part of the AmeriCorps application. As a result of this course, we hope that organizations who are interested in applying for an AmeriCorps program have a better understanding of the grant and are able to start the process of writing the narrative portion of the AmeriCorps application. Developing Logic Models

Course Description: This course will review the 7 elements of a logic model document, outline the two areas of the AmeriCorps grant application where logic models show up, and leave you with the ability to create a strong logic model. Selecting and Developing Performance Measurements

Course Description: This course is designed to help you select the best performance measures for your program and what you are trying to prove; read and interpret the CNCS Performance Measurement Instructions; and write strong performance measures that support a foundation of good, quality data. Understanding the AmeriCorps Budget

Course Description: Creating a budget is one of the required elements of the AmeriCorps application, yet there are many components of an AmeriCorps budget that are unique to the AmeriCorps program. This course is intended to help organizations understand the fundamentals of an AmeriCorps budget, including the different budget types; the main budget sections; what resources are required to carry out an AmeriCorps program; and common red flags to name a few.
